31 days of finding meaning in the mundane {day 5} my #1 secret

This post is part of a series. Find the rest here.

Day 5 may seem a little early in a 31 day series to be sharing my #1 secret to finding meaning in the mundane, but I’m going to do it anyway. Here it is:

My #1 way to make myself aware of the meaningful moments amidst the mundane is practicing gratitude.

At the beginning of 2011, I read Ann Voskamp’s One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are and I think that title says it all…giving thanks for the many gifts throughout my day helps me to live fully right where I am. Right in the midst of the mundane.

As it turns out, 2011 was the hardest year of my life. And I truly believe that what I learned from reading One Thousand Gifts, is what got me through the year. Learning to count my gifts changed my life.

In the next few days I will share some specific insights I gained from the book, but in the meantime, read my full review here.

Yes, I do have a journal. I think keeping one where the kids can see it and even add their own gifts is a great idea!

  2. That is a good idea. We should make them at our next gathering!
