Day in the Life 2013

I’m so excited to be linking up with Simply Rebekah’s Day in the Life again this year. I find it so fascinating to see what everyone’s daily lives are like. It works like this: you choose a day, and take a picture every hour throughout that day, creating a visual photo journal of your everyday life. Here’s mine:

My days vary depending on if I’m working from home or not. And if Charlotte has classes that day or if it’s a homeschool day. This day in the life was a Wednesday (January 16th) when Charlotte was at home and I was working from home. So it’s a pretty typical look at what those types of days look like for us.

ok to wake

6:15 Time to wake up! I’ve taken over my daughter’s alarm clock because I love how it lights up to wake me up rather than making a bunch of noise. (It’s the OK to Wake! Children’s Alarm Clock and Nightlight. It also has a nap time feature where you can set it for a certain amount of time and tell your little napper they can get up with the clock glows.) I’m off to hop in the shower and head out the door to make deliveries for my CSA. As I’m headed out the door I get a text from a good friend that she just had baby girl #4! So exciting!

AHO full trunk

7:15 Trunk of my car is loaded up and ready to go make my deliveries. I do home deliveries for Abundant Harvest Organics, which helps offset the cost of my CSA box each week.

AHO my box

8:15 Just getting home, only my box left in the trunk. Headed in to get Charlotte started on homeschooling.

Charlotte homeschooling

9:15 Homeschooling Charlotte (in her PJ’s), and trying to work at the same time. Not always the best idea. Isaac’s watching Tinkerbell (don’t judge).

working

10:15 More of the same: homeschooling Charlotte and trying to get some work done at the same time.

produce

11:15 Finally unpacking my produce box and feeling overwhelmed by the amount of produce I need to fit in my fridge. Charlotte’s still hard at work. Feels like time is flying by and we still have so much to do.

Thai leftovers

12:15 Time for lunch. Heating up leftover Thai food from last night. Kids had a snacky lunch of cheese, crackers, salami, mandarin oranges from our produce box, and cherry tomatoes.

nap time

1:15 Just put Isaac down for nap and about to read Story of the World with Charlotte before her rest time.

2:15 Working, working, working while the kids are napping. Missed this picture, but I promise it wouldn’t have been too exciting!

3:15 Still working frantically.

choc chili prep

4:15 Starting dinner. I’m trying Stacy’s Chocolate Chili recipe for the first time. It needs to simmer for 2 hours, and I’m wishing I started it a little bit earlier. But, it turned out great, and according to my husband,  it was “some of the best chili he’s ever had”.

5:15 A friend and her girls stopped by for a quick visit, and I forgot to take a picture.

Isaac in bath

6:15 Giving the kids a bath.

IMG_3504-001

7:15 Reading Little Women with Charlotte (she loves these great illustrated classics–abridged versions of classics with illustrations) while the boys watch Toy Story 3 (which Isaac calls “Hat”). I guess because Woody wears a hat?

parenthood

8:15: Kids are in bed and for once actually asleep already (I think). Finishing up a few emails and then going to watch last night’s Parenthood.

10:15 After some catching up on shows and reading in bed, it’s time for lights out for me!

So, that’s my day in a life. Here’s last year’s, and be sure to check out the link up at Simply Rebekah.

31 days of finding meaning in the mundane {day 31} what I found along the way

This post is part of a 31 day series.

31 days ago, I decided at the last minute to take the leap and participate in Nester’s 31 days, and I’m so glad I did. Writing this series has been my own little way of finding meaning in the mundane. And I’ve also found lots of other joys along the way.

I’ve found…

I wish I had more time to read through all the wonderful 31 dayers’ series! If you have found a series that you’ve loved, or written one yourself, please share it with me in the comments so I can check it out.

31 days of finding meaning in the mundane {day 30} 16 more ways

This post is part of a 31 day series.

To add to yesterday’s 16 ways, here are 16 more ways to turn a mundane day into something more:

“Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8

31 days of finding meaning in the mundane {day 29} 16 ways

This post is part of a 31 day series.

So, for when your day is feeling a bit mundane…

“Life is made up of moments, small pieces of glittering mica in a long stretch of grey cement. It would be wonderful if they came to us unsummoned, but particularly in lives as busy as the ones most of us lead now, that won’t happen. We have to teach ourselves how to make room for them, to love them, and to live, really live.”
