From Pinterest to Real Life: February

I know Valentine’s Day has come and gone but I just had to share all the fun ideas I got from Pinterest and actually did.

Valentine’s for Charlotte’s Class

I saw so many cute ideas on Pinterest for making Valentines, but we decided to keep it simple and use these treat bag toppers for the boys and these ones for the girls. They were so easy. I just printed them up, Charlotte signed her name and added hugs and kisses to little baggies and we stapled the bag toppers on.

“Heart Attack” for Charlotte’s Bedroom Door

I saw this idea for a “heart attack”  and loved it. It was such an easy thing to do and I’m planning on making it a new Valentine’s Day tradition around here. It was so simple to cut out a few hearts the night before and write special notes on them and tape them all over Charlotte’s bedroom door for a surprise in the morning. She loved it and still hasn’t let me take them down. And I loved getting an extra chance to tell her all the things I love about her.

Heart-Shaped Pizza

Okay, so mine didn’t look as great as the one I got the inspiration from, but it got the idea across. A fun, easy way to make dinner on Valentine’s Day a little extra-special.

I love finding new ideas to make holidays special. Check out my Holidays board for more fun ideas.

Children’s Book Page Pennants

Also this month, my friend Nicole and I threw a book-themed baby shower together. Inspired by Pinterest, she made these book page pennants:

My local library has a used bookstore with lots of children’s picture books for 25 cents each and I made some great finds including Where The Wild Things Are, Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, and Good Night Moon (in Spanish!). Then Nicole made the book page pennants which we used for decor at the baby shower. And then I scored a couple of them to bring home to add some excitement to Isaac’s very bare walls. If you’re looking for a simple, frugal decorating idea, this is the way to go!

From Pinterest to Real Life: Paint Chip Garland

I’ve had some paint chip samples sitting around for several months now, after seeing so many fun projects on Pinterest. I finally decided on making this cute paint chip garland from ohdeedoh:

I whipped this up while watching Friday Night Lights (love that show!) I think it turned out cute, and it was so easy.

I also did a couple more mini-projects this month, like making this air freshener and making my own toothpaste (the air freshener is on the left, toothpaste on the right.)

Both were so easy, and only took a few minutes to make. To make the air freshener, add some baking soda to a mason jar, along with 6-8 drops of your favorite essential oil. I used lavender for one, and Citrus Bliss for another. Using a hammer and nail, poke holes in the top of the lid. And that’s it! (Recipe from The Complete Guide to Imperfect Homemaking).

To make the toothpaste, combine 5 T. baking soda, 4 T. coconut oil, and 10 drops essential oil (I used peppermint.) You can also add stevia to sweeten it, but I didn’t. (Recipe from Wee Waldorf).

From Pinterest to Real Life: Mint-Eucalyptus Foot Scrub

I LOVE Pinterest (find me here)…and I make myself feel better about spending time on it by trying to actually do some of the ideas I find there. Recently, Nicole at Simple Organic posted a succulent wreath that she made after seeing it on Pinterest and this month she’s starting a link-up party: From Pinterest to Real Life…count me in! I love making my own bath and body products, and I especially love using essential oils in everything I make…here’s a super quick and easy scrub that I made recently to give as gifts:

The recipe comes from Star Haus, and couldn’t be more simple:

2 C Fine or medium ground sea salt (use coarser salt for rougher feet)
1 C Coconut Oil
25 drops eucalyptus oil
15 drops peppermint oil

That’s it! Just combine the ingredients, put in a jar and enjoy. This scrub has a fresh and clean scent that is perfect for feet…but it does use salt, so be careful not to get in any cuts or it will sting! Here’s mine:

Here are some more projects that I have my eye on:

Ribbon Bobby Pin…so cute for Charlotte’s hair, and it’s not too early to be thinking of stocking stuffers!

Beeswax Wood Polish

No Sew Twirlers…I think Charlotte would love these!

So, what should I do next?
