piano

We got a piano! It was an unexpected opportunity that came up last weekend–a beautiful piano at a great price, so we snatched it up. I couldn’t be more excited about it. I took piano lessons for nearly 10 years and my mom still had all my piano books. So I picked those up and have been stumbling my way through old songs. I have zero natural talent, but can read music and am having fun. Plus I’m starting to teach Charlotte. The kids love it and I’m definitely hoping to join the painted piano club. What’s your vote on color?

So many great reads out there this week. Here are some I enjoyed:

Decluttering and Kids: Inspiring Kids to Live Simply :: Keeper of the Home

Goat Cheese and Roasted Corn Guacamole :: Joy the Baker (This pretty much involves all of my favorite things and I am so making it as soon as I’m done with my Whole30)

Poetry Activities for Parents + Kids :: Melissa Camara Wilkins (I really want to bring more poetry into our home. Rick used to read Shel Silverstein every night to Charlotte and I’m inspired to bring that tradition back.)

What Are the Benefits of Skin Brushing? :: Keeper of the Home (I actually have a skin brush but never remember to use it. This post includes a helpful video too.)

A Free Natural Cleaning ebook :: A Delightful Home (This free ebook is great! I’m planning on trying out her foaming carpet cleaner this weekend.)

And some more fun…

lemonade

This week I was over at Simple Homemade sharing my Honey Sweetened Sparkling Lemonade with Flavor Options. I’ve so enjoyed my time there as a contributor and it’s sad to be saying goodbye!

And, don’t miss the Ultimate Homemaking eBook Bundle Sale starting Monday at 9am (EST). I’m going to buy my own bundle first thing. I can’t wait to get to some of those amazing freebies!

gardening

Last weekend we planted our little garden, so I’ve done one of my two “green” goals for the year. We had lots of help from Isaac, who spent most of the time shoveling the soil out of the box and trying to put it in the trash. I’m so excited to see how it turns out. We planted: 4 different types of tomatoes, zucchini, watermelon, strawberries, peas, carrots, jalapeno, mint, lavender, oregano, basil, thyme, calendula, marigolds, and chamomile.

On Monday, I started Whole30 and I’m so thankful for the Facebook group that’s doing it with me. It’s so nice to have encouragement, support, and accountability. If you’re interested, I’m keeping a Whole30 Food Log.

I’ve been loving Jessica’s Outside in 30 series at Life as Mom where she’s sharing for 30 days different ideas to get outside with the kids and have some fun. And I have a post over there sharing some ideas for having fun with water.

If you’re looking for some fun Springtime reads to enjoy with your kids, check out my three favorite children’s books for Spring.

Enjoyed this article on making Pinterest work for you, and it’s very similar to how I use Pinterest. I rarely browse others pins, but use it more as a place to keep inspiration I find online.

Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!

finger knitting

Yesterday Charlotte and I started finger knitting and she’s having so much fun with it!

I also picked up some yarn to make some dryer balls.

On my to-do list: green clean the microwave–instructions at Live Renewed.

I love my crockpot, and love this round up of 100 Days of No Processed Foods Crock-Pot Style from Stacy Makes Cents. I’ll have a review and giveaway (!) for her ebook Crock On! coming soon.

The Homeschooling Bundle is still available until Monday 2/25 at 8am EST, and next up is the Real Food Bundle. You won’t want to miss it!

Last weekend Rick and I saw Life of Pi in 3D at the theatre and I liked it so much better than the book. It was just beautiful. And last night we rented Argo, which was also a great movie. We would normally watch the Oscars, but we don’t have cable now so we won’t be tuning  in this year. Anyone watching them tonight? Have you seen any of the nominated films?

Here are some posts I enjoyed this week:

I always love Joy’s real talk blog tips.

I think I need to mix up some of this homemade body butter for dry skin from Simple Homemade. Of course I’ll add in some essential oils…maybe lavender or peppermint and eucalyptus?

These DIY painted heart jeans from For the Love Of are super adorable and although Charlotte usually refuses to wear anything except dresses, she said she would wear these!

And yum, these dark chocolate almond butter cups over at Sprouted Kitchen look delicious!

What I’m Into {Week of 2/4-2/10}

little readers
Some rainy day reading with a friend at the bookstore.

It’s been a little cloudy and rainy here the past couple days, and I’m ready for some sunshine! I’m realizing Valentine’s Day is just a few days away so I’ve been gathering a few ideas and have a couple other things to share with you this weekend:

Still looking for the perfect Valentine’s? These ones from Life Made Lovely are adorable, and free!

Or mix it up, with these Valentine bookmarks from Cardigan Way.

I love this idea of making a visual chore chart from Instagram pics from Life Rearranged.

This tea tin herb garden is going to happen on my kitchen windowsill as soon as I drink enough tea to have some extra tins available.

What I’m Into {Week of 1/28-2/3}

sunrise

I started back up with Hello Mornings this week, so I’ve been waking up before the kids, sitting in front of my “Happy Light” i.e. NatureBright SunTouch Plus Light and Ion Therapy Lamp (more on this later) and spending some time with God preparing for my day. Also been enjoying some great sunrises (the picture above doesn’t really do it justice)!

We made this Turkey Broccoli Cheddar Panini from Shutterbean last night for dinner and it was soooo good!

I had fun linking up and browsing through Simply Rebekah’s Day in the Life link-up. Here’s my Day in the Life post from this year.

Loving these free printable designer labels for organizing over at Design Sponge.

Love the idea of having a family night, and love these 5 ideas for a family night from Simple Kids.

And if you’re looking for a DIY Valentine idea, these fabric Valentine’s from Simple Homemade look so adorable!

ALSO…found the Hurom Slow Juiceron my doorstep this morning, and couldn’t be more excited! Rick’s grandpa sent it and I was totally surprised and can’t wait to get juicing! Of course, I started a Juice It Pinterest board right away. If you juice, please feel free to send me your favorite recipes!

This weekend I’m hoping to get some things done around the house. Hope your weekend is relaxing or productive, whichever you’re needing!

What I’m Into {Week of 1/21-1/27}

beach 1_19

Last weekend was sunny and I spent part of the day walking on the beach with a good friend. And then just as I was getting used to the almost summer-like weather, the rain hit. So, this weekend is rainy, but I’m not minding some down time after a busy week.

I’m trying something new, rather than a Weekend Links post, and sharing some of what I’ve been into this week, along with some good links.

Reading

This past week I was super busy with work, which means lots and lots of driving. But…the good thing about all that driving is listening to audio books. I finished The Night Circus this week and LOVED it. Review coming soon.

In the Kitchen

Simple Meal Planning - Plan to Eat
I’ve been following along with Kat’s Meal Planning Boot Camp. I love using Plan to Eat for meal planning and am excited to have new friends to share recipes with.

I picked up a copy of Better Than a Box this week and am loving it. I’ve been making the Chicken with Rice and Green Beans since I recipe tested it over a year ago and it’s delicious. Can’t wait to try out the other yummy looking recipes. Also, don’t miss the  Launch Party Giveaway happening now through 1/29.

brussels and cranberries

I made my favorite brussels sprouts dish two nights in a row and used fresh cranberries, which is even better than dried!

Around the Web

You know I love my essential oils, so of course I was excited to see that The Prairie Homestead is giving away her essential oils ebook for FREE!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! I’ve been seeing some fun Valentine-themed beauty around the web:

I’m excited to follow Stephanie and her family as they travel around the world for the next year! What an adventure! Loved this post she wrote on 25 reasons we’re taking our kids around the world.

I think that’s it for now! Anything fun you’re into right now?
